Dubai has greenlighted a new campaign to lower obesity rates whereby the government coughs up $42 worth of gold for every 2.2 pounds a citizen loses. It's called "Your Weight in Gold" and also offers the opportunity to win a $5,400 gold coin for losing the most weight. The program is running from July 19 to August 16 to coincide with the fasting holiday Ramadan, which officials explained "is the most appropriate season to launch such initiatives as it reminds us about many health benefits of reducing weight and encourages us to take strong steps to change our bad lifestyles."
